LIFTING FOG is the spiritual sequel to a blog of the same name that was born in 2008 on the heels of The Great Recession and 'The Dark Knight', two great tastes that tasted great together. For five or so years, my buddy Steve and I charted our post-college journey in posts about Paramore, Harry Potter, and ski-wee instruction. Steve became a music producer; I, Henning Fog, became a television writer. Here is what I looked like when I was sixteen years old:

From 2019-2021, I wrote on ABC’s ‘American Housewife’. I can’t say for certain those were my jokes you were laughing at but, like, probably. Now “between gigs” (read: unemployed!), I’m plugging away on no shortage of would-be pilot and feature scripts, trying to get back in the game. But screenwriting can feel long and arduous and sometimes you just want the satisfaction of a Click to Publish button, and immediate creative connection. And thus LIFTING FOG was (re) borne unto the world.

What can you find here?

Who knows! Over the past two years, I’ve written about digital avatars and urban gardening; penned fictional histories of video game development and straight-up heartbreak missives. I’ve also just written a… shit-ton about movies and TV, which like Ennis holding onto Jack’s shirt in ‘Brokeback Mountain’, I simply can’t quit.

Way back when, I described the blog as a series of navel-gazing pop culture essays disguised as records of burgeoning maturity. Fifteen years later, social media having splintered each of our identities into their own multiverses of madness, I’d call it one boy’s man’s journey to (hopefully entertainingly!) gather those shards of self into something whole — an act of personal re-assembly, glued together with, like, the Kony 2012 video and Bean Dad references. Disparate in focus; unified in tone.

One last thing (💸)

As long as blogging is enshrined in the US constitution, Lifting Fog is and always will be 100% free. At the same time, I’ve finally reached a point in both my artistic maturation and financial decline (strikes! They hurt!) that I am willing to ask that, if you can………….

You don’t have to! Please see the “100% Free” note just above the “guy hiding behind brick wall” ASCII art. But I think this project of mine has value; I think the words and craft, which I spend a lot of time on — way more time than I should, quite honestly — have value. I hope you do, too, and might be willing to pay a fair, affordable rate to help support it!
